It's a win. Middlesex v Yorkshire Day 3

All Round Performer

By Ged
June 9 2006

I think we need to entertain the possibility that tonight's "live from the ground" reporter is lying drunk in a gutter somewhere rather than writing. In the meantime, here's Ged's take on the day from the comfort of Ceefax, Cricinfo and a few bursts of the webcast. Thinking ahead
----------------

After the glory of Day 2, how would Day 3 pan out? Can we get the maximum bonus points we crave? Can we get 100+ lead and therefore minimise the Day 4 pitch effect?

As I have clients to see all morning, I won't find out until close to lunch.

Drat. 414/9 coming up to lunch. Max bonus points a least - crumbs - look at the way the wickets fell. We might have got out for less than their score and only 3 batting points. Well done Peps and Swing. And while I'm thinking all this through the Ceefax clicker shows me that we're all out for 415, a straight 60 lead.

Possibly not enough but it'll have to do. Quick run through the old business e-mails and off to my next appointment.

Ged gets back to base about 15:00
----------------------------------

Oh joy - 31/3 - one wicket for Swing and two for Silver. Potter around for a few minutes unpacking bag and stuff - oh further joy - they're four down now. Up to my home office and I'll treat myself to 15 minutes of the webcast while I nibble a bit of extremely late lunch. I also scan MTWD board to check for libel or dangerous levels of overexcitement (delete where applicable).

I'm just pondering writing a "while Lehmann is still there they still have a chance" posting when I hear Lehmann fall. I sit on a special orthopedic chair in my home office, otherwise I'd have lept around in my chair. My 15 minute treat perhaps got extended to 20 or 25 but I hear wickets 6 & 7 fall as well.

Much restored, I press my nose against the grindstone convinced that we shall now win.

Which of course we did.

Summary
--------

Fantastic effort today and I do hope it is the start of good things to come. Our batting is going to be a little raw for soem matches bt our bowling seems so much better this year. In thsat department, we shall certainly miss Rymps when he's not around, but we haev some unexpected pluses, such as Peploe coming to the party and Chad recovering ahead of schedule. We need Richo fit as well and then we'll be formidable.

Oh happy day!!
